Bachelors of Landscape Architecture (BLA)
The Bachelor of Landscape Architecture program is a structured curriculum intending to be an accredited professional degree that prepares graduates to enter the profession and discipline of landscape architecture. The BLA degree program accepts students as freshmen and sophomores. The four-year curriculum results in a shorter road to licensure as a landscape architect. Accreditation will take place as soon as available by the Landscape Architecture Accreditation Board (LAAB).
The undergraduate program in Landscape Architecture at the University of New Mexico complements the Architecture and Community and Regional Planning programs within the School of Architecture and Planning. The strong interdisciplinary relationship among the three programs in addition to the School’s close ties with professional, state, civic, neighborhood and cultural communities of the region ensures that students are given the opportunity to engage in a rich and diverse educational experience.
This new program takes advantage of the expertise of existing faculty and will grow with new additions. The program is 120 credits and shares some early studios with architecture enabling students to develop their interest in landscape architecture throughout their freshman year.
The program has strengths in the following areas:- Design
- Climate change
- Urban ecologies
- Indigenous design
- Water and arid landscape design
